Welfare in youth football

It addresses the essential responsibilities of academy coaches, underscoring their role not just as technical and tactical instructors, but as advocates who support both the athletic and personal growth of young players. Coaches play a pivotal role in guiding players through emotional and developmental challenges, particularly within the demanding environment established by elite football. The chapter further highlights the importance of maintaining consistent safeguarding protocols to ensure a secure and supportive environment for players, emphasising the shared responsibility of coaches, staff, parents, and guardians. Parental involvement is critically assessed, acknowledging their influential role and the need to balance support with realistic expectations, thus preventing undue pressure on young athletes.
