Abstract
Although competitive teamsport has traditionally been a hostile environment for sexual minorities, a plethora of recent research has documented a shift toward inclusivity, with LGB athletes increasingly enjoying more tolerant environments. Despite the emergence of this work, however, relatively little is known about bisexual athletes' sporting experiences, which remain largely under-researched. Addressing this void, this article examines 135 coming-out experiences of bisexual athletes in North American high school and college sports. Our findings indicate that more than three-quarters (77.25%) of these experiences were categorized by participants as good, very good, or near-perfect/perfect. Accordingly, these findings indicate that bisexual athletes' overwhelmingly positive sporting experiences are mirroring those of other sexual minorities, acting as a point of departure for further research on this population.
