    Abstract

This paper argues that universities need to change their teaching approaches to meet the needs of students, due to the effects of globalisation, the rapid changes that are now affecting the economy and the use of mobile technology. Three learning approaches that are more relevant to today's students are compared and contrasted. These are Problem Based Learning, Work Based Learning and Problem Focused Education. The authors concluded that the Problem Focused Education should be consider as the possible way forward following from their research in both the UK and in Finland.
