Abstract
The 2021 UK Supreme Court judgement regarding the 2015 Ever Smart - Alexandra 1 collision (in the approaches to Jebel Ali port) overturned previous judgements. It stressed the application of crossing situation rule (Rules 15, 16 and 17) even at the approaches to narrow channels. This article discusses the specifics of the case, based on the legal literature, radar displays from the official investigation report and the author's own navigation experiences.
