    Abstract

Beauty By Design project (October 2014 - January 2015) is a multi disciplinary research project in collaboration with the National Galleries of Scotland and All Walks Beyond the Catwalk. The project will also collaborate with academic researchers/practitioners from UK-wide fashion institutions including UCA Epsom, the University of Bournemouth and Southampton Solent University (Sharon Lloyd, Fashion Cluster member). This project brings together art historical research with contemporary fashion design to question cultural commonplaces about beauty and body image. A major exhibition is confirmed at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery (October 2014-January 2015) and will be accompanied by a programme of events and a publication. The exhibition will juxtapose Renaissance images with clothing and jewellery designed in response to issues related to body image.
