Project Details
Academic description
This project will provide supplementary funding to support awarded pump-priming funding for the Clean Sea Through Retrofit (CARGO) project from the British Academy (BA). This funding will be leveraged to further develop a partnership to deliver a proposal against the Horizon
Europe funding call: Clean and competitive solutions for all transport modes (HORIZON-CL5-2022-D5-01). The BA has awarded £10k to support the formation of a robust and rounded partnership, and therefore increase the chances of a successful application. The project
requires the formation of two regional clusters with multiple areas of expertise, to cover the geographic, the technological, and demonstration aspects of the project. Furthermore, a request was made for funding to support Solent to join the co-programmed ‘Zero Emission
Waterborne Transport’ (ZEWT) partnership, to identify and recruit additional partners and key stakeholders to strengthen the application. The partnership mobilises resources towards the objective of demonstrating by 2030 deployable solutions for all main types of waterborne
transport to become “net zero emission” by 2050. As a European level membership organisation, the ZEWT partnership includes representatives from industry, including vessel owners, technology suppliers, vessel operators, fuel suppliers, and ports. Membership will enable rapid identification and network building with these partners. However, the BA is unable to support organisational membership fees, therefore this project is proposed to
enable Solent to join the ZEWT partnership.
