Project Details

Academic description

The replacement of hours from clinical to simulated placements has been considered by the NMC since 2007, where they introduced higher education institutions to conduct 300 hours of simulated practice in replacement of clinical placement hours. Since this time, the concept of replacing clinical placement hours with simulation has grown in popularity worldwide.
Despite the research to date, the quality and diversity of the research which supports simulated placements is insufficient for the NMC to allow all HEI’s to develop such programmes. As a result, this research and knowledge exchange project looks to explore student and staff perceptions of the simulated placement to develop evidence for its use, provide evidence to inform simulated placements as they arise over the year and to produce new evidence of which activities work well/ not so well and why.
