Silent Testimony: Crafting a Holistic Methodology for Embedding Evaluation into Creative Practice Research

Project Details

Academic description

An investigation of methods for the evaluation of creative practice research by seamlessly integrating data capture within the creative process itself, thereby eliminating the need for additional, extraneous evaluative activities. This research aims to innovate a method for
capturing the impact of creative practice research in a manner that is both organic and intrinsic to the creative experience. At the heart of this investigation is the concept of 'embedded evaluation'. Utilising the natural flow of creative activities as a means of gathering data, ensures that the evaluation process does not disrupt or detract from the artistic experience. Focusing on the ACE funded "Rituals for Earthly Survival" arts project in Portsmouth, which includes a range of activities such as Butoh workshops, community group rehearsals, and a final audio-visual event. This research aims to investigate an innovative approach to evaluating creative practice research by embedding the evaluation within the creative activities. Thereby generating a more authentic and holistic understanding of the impact of such projects, respecting the integrity of the creative process while offering a nuanced perspective on how creative practice research can influence, engage, and transform both individuals and communities.
