Project Details
Academic description
The project, SEAGUARD (Sea Environmental Awareness and Guard Enhanced with Unmanned AI Robotic Detection), in partnership with 14 organisations across Europe aims to develop an innovative, integrated approach to maritime cross-border surveillance, strengthening border security and management across Europe. The project will focus on the design, development, testing, and deployment of an advanced surveillance system that integrates multiple sensing technologies on both fixed and mobile platforms. These include unmanned vehicles (Unmanned Aerial, Surface, and Underwater Vehicles - UxVs), fixed buoys, and smart submarine cables, combined with advanced analytics and decision-support systems. The project will enhance the ability to monitor and detect various threats such as illegal border crossings, smuggling, illegal fishing, and terrorist activities. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies and data analytics, the system will utilize multidomain autonomous cooperative platforms to deliver real-time information and situational awareness to border guards and other authorities, improving the efficiency of threat detection and response from air, surface, and underwater domains.
