Academic description

The Screening Sexual Violence project explores screen representations of sexual violence and the role of film in improving public understanding. The main project case study is analysis of short films submitted to the 16 Days 16 Films festival 2018-2023 to create (1) a catalogue (database) of films, crew, topics, themes, and other key information, (2) an educational resource providing access to the films with materials to support engagement (3) guidelines for filmmakers (4) analysis to be written up for publication. The project received funding for 12 months via the British Academy as part of their Mid-Career Fellowship scheme. This funding provided buy out for myself as PI as well as research expenses to fund academic dissemination, public engagement and research assistance. The research assistants have supported the cataloguing of 1400 films submitted to the16 Days 16 Films across 5 years of the competition as well as supporting the development of the resource (image research, social media content). I am seeking RIKE funding under the "bridge" category to extend the research assistance into 2025 to allow for films submitted to the competition in 2024 and finalists screened Nov-Dec 24 to be included in the research project. Research assistance will also support the monitoring of engagement with the resource and impact capture since the resource was launched at the end of November.
