Lost@Sea is a short (circa 25 minutes long) dramatic film that addresses a number of problems and difficulties that can face us all but, especially young people and their parents. Set a few years in the future a teenaged girl, Maisie, seeks answers to the reasons for her mother’s suicide some years before. Her mother’s suicide has caused her trauma that has lead to her self-harming. Her father, a former merchant seaman, has given up the sea to bring up his troubled daughter but, stands by bewildered as he witnesses her pain and confusion. Maisie in seeking answers to her mother’s suicide has an Artificial Intelligence avatar built by a technician at the local university. From there, things will unfold with Masie exploring the complex relationship with her parents, trying to get insight on how to navigate life since her passing.
The film, therefore, looks at the topics of psychological trauma, suicide, self-harm, single-parenting and the benefits and dangers of Artificial Intelligence and will be used by the collaborating charities in their work and the impact of the use of the film will be used in further research.
