Academic description
The ongoing global refugee crisis has led to increasing numbers of displaced individuals resettling in various host countries, posing significant challenges for both refugees and host communities. One of the key challenges is the integration of refugee learners into educational systems and the broader community. Educational institutions play a critical role in intercultural integration by providing social, cultural, and academic inclusion platforms. However, the success of these integration efforts varies significantly depending on local policies, support systems, and the willingness of the community to engage with refugee populations. This research underscores the urgent need for community engagement in this process (Phillimore, 2012). This research aims to explore how refugee learners are being interculturally integrated into their host communities, focusing on the role of educational institutions and support organisations. The research will analyse the strategies employed by schools and other newcomer support organisations to foster social inclusion and intercultural understanding among refugee learners, as well as the challenges they face in achieving successful integration (Nardon et al., 2020).
