Project Details
Academic description
The IGNITE Accelerator project was an extension of UKRI funded project IGNITE which was broadly completed in 2022.
Project IGNITE enabled the deployment of a data transfer infrastructure, the installation of the key vessel systems, and development of a digital twin. The IGNITE project had successfully demonstrated the capabilities for remote operation of the IGNITE vessel from Maritime Simulation Centre at East Park Terrace Campus.
Learning from the project IGNITE, a strong need was felt to maintain and further develop the existing project IGNITE infrastructure to be ready to future leverage and exploit opportunities presented by research collaboration and by other funding opportunities provided by UK Shore, Innovate UK, EPSRC and LRF.
The aim of the project IGNITE Accelerator was to carry out key maintenance and upgrades to IGNITE infrastructure (like IGNITE remote controlled ship model), hence strengthening the capability for carrying out further research in the field of maritime autonomy and sustainability.
