Contested Spaces

    Project Details

    Academic description

Contested Spaces is the current research focus within the Art, Environment, and Social Change (AESC) research group at Solent. The group explores how theoretical discourses and generative practices are woven together and how they contribute to the production of affective knowledge. With Contested Spaces we want to invite speakers to a public round table event to discuss how artistic and creative practices can open up new perspectives of sites where ecology and politics collide, spotlighting new possibilities and modes of engagement.
The work supported by this grant will focus on ‘contested spaces’ as an umbrella theme and allow the AESC research group to facilitate roundtable talks with external guests and invite artists and academics to prepare article drafts for a special edition journal publication. The roundtable talks with guests throughout the 2022-23 academic will be open to staff members, external guests, and PhD students at Solent to attend and provide an important platform for meeting and discussion as well as opportunities for being introduced to less familiar artistic, political as well as environmental challenges.
