    Project Details

    Academic description

This project is a collaborative research project on Bystander Interventions at Solent University which will achieve several aims, including the development of an external funding bid with external partners by the end of the project. The project will work within the Changing Culture strategic framework produced by Universities UK to develop a university approach to tackling harassment, abuse and violence, that empowers our students to be able to intervene in inappropriate behaviours. The project will bring expertise on equity from sociologists and criminologists, including Dr Ben Powis, Dr Rory Magrath, Dr Catherine Phipps, Kola Adeosun, and Dr Ahlem Lezerad, as well as colleagues across the university, including student services, SLTI, the student union and other colleagues who interact with and support students. These colleagues will be included in the steering group. Our project aims to:
•Develop a steering group across the university to work on a protocol and campaign for tackling harassment and abuse
•Review and adapt current bystander workshop materials to deliver at Solent University as part of a wider campaign
•Train colleagues involved in the project on bystander awareness and workshops through utilisation of "train the trainer" event
•Deliver and evaluate bystander workshops to staff and students in the university
•Develop a collaborative funding bid with stakeholders to develop the bystander workshop for different community settings and needs
