Project Details
Academic description
The proposed project will provide a toolbox which will enable the collection of complete and consistent data when a suspected work-related adverse health event occurs. Without systems in place to appropriately record data when a suspected work-related adverse health outcome occurs it is not possible to undertake any meaningful investigation. Therefore, with complete and consistent data it will be possible to analyse datasets to identify any potential patterns which are emerging. With these patterns identified employers will be able to put suitable measures in place to safeguard the workforce. Thus, the toolbox will consist of best practice guidance of what data needs to be collected and recorded. This guidance will be produced in close conjunction with those in the industry who will utilise the data. The proposed project will focus on workers in three industries:
• Seafarers onboard UK registered ships
• Workers in UK ports
• Workers in UK ship recycling facilities
