Research interests

I am currently undertaking a PhD in positive adaption to change.

The contribution of positive adaptation to change on employee work-related quality of life in a higher education institution.

Aim

  • To establish the factors utilised by individuals to positively adapt to change in a higher education institution leading to employees achieving life and organisational goals.

Objectives

  • To evaluate the protective and promotive factors utilised by individuals when faced with daily stressors

  • To verify whether the protective and promotive factors can be correlated to authentic behaviours

  • To synthesise an ideology for advocating psychological resilience (as part of developing psychological capital) in a higher education setting as a tool to enhance employee and organisational performance.

  • To evaluate the type of organisational climate that supports psychological resilience whilst increasing performance and work-related quality of life

  • To substantiate whether this framework is valid in a wider workplace context or specific to a higher education institution

Research question

How do academics in a higher education institution build resilient behaviour whilst achieving life and organisational goals?

Utilising the repertory grid technique, interviews will be undertaken with academics in a higher education institution to identify the protective and promotive factors utilised by individuals when faced with change.  The bi-polar constructs produced by the repertory grid interviews will identify both the positive and negative factors utilised by individuals to adapt to change. These factors will then be correlated to previous research on authentic behaviours to verify whether there are similarities between positive adaptation and authentic behaviours. An ideology for advocating psychological resilience will be drawn from the thematic analysis of the repertory grids. A further round of repertory grid interviews undertaken in another work place setting will hope to verify whether the outcomes of the initial research can be substantiated in another work place setting.
