Personal profile
Joelle leads on simulated practice learning (SPL) at Solent University. SPL is an innovative initiative designed to help undergraduate nursing students prepare for the realities of clinical practice. In this role, Joelle uses active, experiential learning approaches, using simulation-based education to immerse students in diverse aspects of the nursing role and develop confidence, critical thinking, and professional identity.
Her work is grounded in educational research and informed by a framework for a customised design of SPL that she developed. The framework guides the strategic design and delivery of SPL within nursing curricula. Joelle’s research interests focus on SPL, curriculum design, and inclusivity in nursing education, and she is passionate about ensuring SPL remains both evidence-based and adaptable to the evolving needs of healthcare and higher education.
Accordingly, Joelle's research interests consider the impact of SPL on clinical practice, and subsequent patient safety, particuarly within widening participation student populations.
