Donna welcomes PhD applications and email enquiries from prospective students in any area that relates to her research interests. She is currently supervising PhD students (including practice research) working on masculinity and race in contemporary British and American literature and culture, filmmaking, online film activism and socio-cultural change, intermediality in film and theatre, social media language and identity.

Dr Donna Peberdy (she/her) is Associate Professor of Performance, Sex and Gender at Solent University Southampton, UK and is University Research Lead for Media, Culture and the Arts. Her publications include Masculinity and Film Performance: Male Angst in Contemporary American Cinema (Palgrave Macmillan 2011) and Tainted Love: Screening Sexual Perversion (I.B. Tauris 2017). She is co-director of Screening Sex (screeningsex.com), co-series editor of Edinburgh University Press’s Screening Sex book series and is currently editing a two-volume collection on The Sex Scene (forthcoming 2025). Donna is the recipient of a British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship for her project ‘Screening Sexual Violence’, which examines film and television representations in the #MeToo era. Research interests

Sex in contemporary film, television and culture; gender and masculinity; identity politics and representation; acting and performance, stardom and celebrity; contemporary and classical Hollywood; film noir, dystopian and utopian fiction. Donna’s current research concerns representations of sexual violence in contemporary film, television and culture.
