Chris has a background of working within Human Resources in various industries and managing gyms and Health and Fitness Centres. Whilst working in Health and Fitness, Chris became increasingly interested in the wider factors and systems that influence the health of whole communities and populations.  

In 2009 Chris created an innovative and multidisciplinary Health Promotion unit at Solent University. ‘Solent Health’ helped the staff and student community to take more control over and improve their health. Solent Health’s work was recognised nationally, winning the 2014, 2015 and 2016 awards for Workplace Wellbeing from ukactive and being awarded shortlisted status for the BUPA Employee Wellbeing award from Business in the Community (BITC), as well as being shortlisted for the Royal Society for Public Health workplace wellbeing award. From 2015 Chris began to move increasingly into teaching Public Health at the University. creating and leading modules over a number of Undergraduate and Masters programmes. Chris’s teaching focuses on World Health Organisation Health Promotion, the Salutogenic orientation, the Social Determinants of Health, Health Inequalities and Obesogenic Environments. Chris’s research interests focus on Salutogenic theory, specifically the Sense of Coherence and health outcomes 

Chris holds a Degree in Psychology from the University of Southampton, a Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel & Development and a Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from Solent University. He also holds an MSc in Health Promotion & Health Improvement from Robert Gordon University. Chris is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
