'Technological Vision: Presencing, Enframing, Power' ('The Practice of (in)Visibility' Conference, University of Brighton, June 2015.)

Activity: Invited talk or paper presentationInvited talk (e.g. Keynote or guest speaker)

    Description

This paper considers in/visibility through consideration of image-based technologies, its effects upon expanded frames of knowledge, and Martin Heidegger’s proposal that technology is the condition upon which the world is revealed. The operations of visual technologies contain both a revealing and a concealing of ‘truth’ in the form of constructed visibility. It also provides the simultaneous potential for emancipation and greater disciplinary control in its deployment within (biopolitical) mechanisms of power.
