Description

In my presentation titled Research Informed Teaching - Exploring Hyperacusis, Tinnitus, and Misophonia Through Art: A Journey of Connection and Understanding, I shared my personal journey as an artist living with Hyperacusis and the ways in which I have used art to express and explore this condition. By employing Arts-Based Research, I aimed to foster empathy and a deeper understanding of the lived experience of Hyperacusis, as highlighted by Barone and Eisner (2012). Through my artwork, I sought not only to understand my own experiences but also to connect with others, providing alternative representations of sensory conditions. My involvement in the Sound Off competition and workshops with students further exemplified the transformative potential of participatory arts research, supporting healing and building community. This work aligns with the views of Rubin (2023), Hogan et al. (2015), and Van Der Kolk (2014) on the power of art to transcend barriers, create new understandings, and restore well-being.
