    Description

An interdisciplinary panel (4 speakers), led by Daen Palma Huse and Caitlin French, discussed the impact of language as a barrier to cultural exchange in the areas of academic research, teaching and visual arts practice. The panel promoted and advocated for comprehensive research strategies and will include personal experiences of navigating language barriers — traversing geographies and temporalities.

The aim of the event was to promote a conscious approach to language in research and practice across a diverse range of cultural and lived experiences, particularly to support MA students in the HoA department at UCL as they approach their dissertation research and writing. Communication strategies will be explored through the impact of language barriers on accessible research material and practice. This virtual event will highlight socio-political implications of language as it pertains to multicultural study and will provide a platform for conversation between panellists and participants.

Supported by UCL's EDI (Equality, Diversity, Inclusion) Fund after successful concept proposal by Daen Palma Huse.
