Description

Photographic work from my series visualizing the effects of birth trauma on midwives is featured in F-Stop Open Theme Issue #119. This work is informed by research into the challenges midwives face, including burnout, stress, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from witnessing traumatic perinatal events. Midwives often experience a tension between providing empathetic care and navigating institutional pressures, leading to feelings of powerlessness, guilt, and isolation. My artistic practice aims to convey these experiences through photography, photomontage, and mixed media, incorporating testimonials and metaphors to foster empathy and understanding. By engaging audiences emotionally, the artworks seek to empower midwives and advocate for positive change in maternity care.
