Exploring Hyperacusis Through Art: A Journey of Connection and Understanding

Activity: Invited talk or paper presentationOral presentation

Description

In my presentation at the 7th International Conference on Hyperacusis and Misophonia (ICHM7), I shared my personal experience with hyperacusis, a condition that heightens sensitivity to certain sounds. I discussed how I have used art, particularly photography and photomontage, as a therapeutic tool to visualize the sensory overload associated with hyperacusis. Additionally, I introduced the Sound Off competition, which invites participants to express their experiences with sound sensitivities through art. The submissions highlighted themes of resilience, adaptation, and hope, offering valuable insights into the emotional and sensory impacts of hyperacusis, misophonia, and tinnitus. My work and the Sound Off competition demonstrate the power of art to raise awareness, foster empathy, and improve communication about these conditions.
