Description
Burnt Out (2023), exhibited as part of the Candid Arts Trust Summer Salon, emerges from ongoing research into the lived experiences of midwives and the challenges they face. Informed by secondary research and testimonials, the project visualizes themes of burnout, trauma, and emotional strain in midwifery practice. With midwives frequently navigating personal and professional stress, this research highlights their vulnerability to post-traumatic stress disorder, feelings of powerlessness, and the tension between institutional demands and individual care models.Through photography, photomontage, and mixed media, the artworks explore the metaphors and language used to describe these experiences, aiming to foster empathy, understanding, and dialogue. By transforming complex emotional realities into visual narratives, the work seeks to empower those affected and raise awareness among broader audiences, contributing to positive change in the perception and support of midwifery roles.
